Course Description:

Big Biologics and MABs examines the nursing role in biologics, MAB, and immunosuppression.

After completing this course the participant will be able to:

  1. Understand the two types of immunosuppression and describe three examples of acquired immunosuppression.
  2. Identify three important considerations in managing patients on immunosuppression.
  3. Define biologics and state three types of biologic therapies.
  4. Discuss three diseases or conditions for which patients might be given biologic or immunosuppressive medications.
  5. Describe monoclonal antibodies (MABs) and list two potential adverse effects of these biologics.
  6. Identify three key elements in the assessment of a patient on biologics/immunosuppressants.
  7. State three nursing actions that can decrease the risk for infection in the non-isolated immunocompromised patient.
  8. Give three examples of how the nurse can educate patients regarding biologic therapy in the hospital or home setting.
