CEUS-1034-9: Rub-a-Dub-Dub, Laundry Can Be Fun: Laundry Operations in Extended Living
Course Abstract: |
Extended living Administrators are responsible for a wide variety of facility functions from clinical services, to financial responsibilities, to the well-being of the physical plant. Probably one of the least glamorous responsibilities within any extended living facility, however, is the operation of the organization's laundry. Almost always forgotten and sometimes completely neglected, the facility's laundry services are a vital link in maintaining a well functioning extended living organization. Without quality laundry service to residents, the facility not only risks probable censure for being non-compliant with Federal and State regulations but also exhibits an attitude of uncaring for the residents it serves. There are a wide variety of laundry systems currently in practice within the extended living environment. They vary from a small residential washer and dryer to multiple items of commercial grade laundry equipment. Depending upon the size and mission of a given facility, laundry operations can be relatively simple and straightforward or they can be complex and extremely labor intensive. In addition to bed linens, towels and washcloths, most facilities are also responsible for dining linen. Certainly one of the most labor-intensive functions of any laundry is the care and maintenance of resident personal laundry. |
